The Office of Undergraduate Admission has an exciting new opportunity for USM alumni through the Office of Undergraduate Admission and our Alumni in Admission Program (AAP). Our Admission staff travel year round to recruit students to USM through many venues including high school visits and college fairs. While we attend literally hundreds of events throughout the spring and fall semesters, we always want to do more, and we need your help.

As an alumni volunteer you would assist the Office of Undergraduate Admission by attending local college fairs in your area to connect with prospective students and their families. This is your chance to share your experiences and memories from USM and really make a difference. It doesn’t matter if you graduated in 1958 or 2008, students love to hear from former students.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our AAP:

What is a college fair?

·        College fairs are events that usually take place in the evening at a high school or local venue. Tables are set up for different institutions, and students and families attend the fair to meet with representatives and collect information. College fairs usually last 2 hours, typically from 6:00-8:00pm. Representatives are typically asked to arrive about a half hour early.

What would be the time commitment?

·        While there are many opportunities to volunteer, we respect your time and personal lives. Most AAP members will only attend 1-2 fairs a year, but are welcome to do more.

Do I have to travel?

·        No.  AAP members will only represent USM at college fairs that are local to their residence.

Will I be paid?

·        Members of AAP are volunteers. We sincerely appreciate your time and commitment to USM.

I’ve been away from USM for many years now. I’m sure things have changed. Can I really do this?

·        Absolutely! Students want to know that you chose USM and that you enjoyed your time here, no matter when you attended. However, we will also provide thorough training materials to update you on academic and extracurricular programs, the campus, admission requirements, and more.
